Ali Walker Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome!

Thanks for stopping by! I'm Ali Walker, a photographer who takes pictures of people. Little people, big people, young people, old people, and people in love. But mostly I photograph weddings. Why weddings? Because I adore them. Each wedding is a unique and amazing feat of design and, most importantly, a celebration that marks a new era in the life of two people. I am always so honored to be a part of what is really a very intimate day for my clients. My photography approach is both artistic and photojournalistic so that I can create a beautiful, honest story through my camera's viewfinder.

Originally from Bellevue, WA, I now call Walla Walla my home. I have two wee ones who are both funny and clever and a fat black cat with an unfortunate name. When I'm not busy behind my camera, I can be found reading Dwell magazine, listening to Regina Spektor, and dreaming of travel.

Ali Walker Photography is located in downtown Walla Walla just one block off Main Street and is available for wedding and portrait commissions nationwide. If you're planning a wedding or a lifestyle photography session and like what you see, please contact me so we can schedule a meeting and talk about your photography needs.

The Secret Life of a Wedding Photographer.

I ran across this great blog post by Stacy Reeves, a Dallas-based wedding photographer and I thought it was worth posting. Many people have the misguided notion that they’re paying thousands of dollars for eight hours of photography (wow, what a living!) or that a photographer’s job is  downright glamorous. I think her blog post does a great job of dispelling these myths. Oh, how I wish I spent 80% of my work hours behind the camera, but that just isn’t the case.

The best camera is the one that’s with you.

I’ve seen this quotation pop up on the web often lately and it’s so true. In an age when amazing DSLRs are readily available for almost any budget and when big camera companies are churning out new models faster and faster (planned obsolescence at its finest), it’s easy to get caught up the race for the awesomest gear. DSLRs are a wonderful tool, but they’re that–a tool, and a cumbersome one at that.  I often lug mine around to document my life, but lately I’ve been leaving mine behind and using my iPhone instead.
