Ali Walker Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome!

Thanks for stopping by! I'm Ali Walker, a photographer who takes pictures of people. Little people, big people, young people, old people, and people in love. But mostly I photograph weddings. Why weddings? Because I adore them. Each wedding is a unique and amazing feat of design and, most importantly, a celebration that marks a new era in the life of two people. I am always so honored to be a part of what is really a very intimate day for my clients. My photography approach is both artistic and photojournalistic so that I can create a beautiful, honest story through my camera's viewfinder.

Originally from Bellevue, WA, I now call Walla Walla my home. I have two wee ones who are both funny and clever and a fat black cat with an unfortunate name. When I'm not busy behind my camera, I can be found reading Dwell magazine, listening to Regina Spektor, and dreaming of travel.

Ali Walker Photography is located in downtown Walla Walla just one block off Main Street and is available for wedding and portrait commissions nationwide. If you're planning a wedding or a lifestyle photography session and like what you see, please contact me so we can schedule a meeting and talk about your photography needs.

Tim & Krista

Krista and Tim were married last month at Anthony’s Homeport in Richland. They brought along their classic Buick for some of the shots. (I think it’s a ‘74?) I loved Krista’s jewelry and Tim’s dark chocolate tux. Really cool touches.

Congratulations to Krista and Tim!

Checking in.

I wanted to write a quick post to say that I haven’t fallen off of the face of the earth. A few weeks ago I decided it was time to move out of my home-based office and secured a lease on a very small, but very cute office in downtown Walla Walla. I don’t think I realized how much work it would be getting it up and running–trips to IKEA, moving furniture, installing DSL, ordering wall prints, and so on. It’s been consuming me! Thankfully it’s almost all set up. I know to many working from home seems ideal, but I’ve been doing it for nearly a decade and have grown increasingly irritated by blurry work-home boundaries. So I’m really excited about this move. I have a few weddings to blog and I hope to do that soon. And on Friday I leave for Maui for my first destination wedding, which I’m looking forward to. And then I return and it’s the holidays. Where has this year gone?

Oh, and in camera gear news I just switched to Nikon. I’ve been shooting Canon for over two years. Love the fast primes. Didn’t love the flash system or the lackluster auto-focus. So I’m having so much fun trying to get used to my new system. The D700 is a fantastically responsive camera and I definitely feel confident in its ability to nail the focus. That said, I’m really sad to say goodbye to my favorite lens ever, the Canon 35mm f/1.4. I have the Nikkor 35mm f/2, which is a pretty cool little optic, but it doesn’t quite compare. That said, the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 is super dreamy and I’m so glad to now have a reliable mid-range zoom to use for most of the day. And the 85mm f/1.4 is sweet.

Okay, I’m done geeking out on gear. I hope to crank out some blog posts soon!

Just three.

My kid, hair in face. She’s super adorable, if I do say so myself.

I don’t think there’s anything I enjoy more than travel…

except for perhaps taking photographs.

So wedding season is officially slowing down and I decided I was overdue for a trip. So what’s a girl to do but hop on a flight to San Francisco for a weekend getaway? All I took along gear-wise was a 5DmkII and a 50mm prime lens. I enjoy challenging myself to work with just one focal length. While I was there I didn’t shoot very much (after a season full of shutter clicks it’s sometimes nice to take a break from shooting) but I managed to shoot enough frames to give myself a little something to remember the trip by.
