Ali Walker Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome!

Thanks for stopping by! I'm Ali Walker, a photographer who takes pictures of people. Little people, big people, young people, old people, and people in love. But mostly I photograph weddings. Why weddings? Because I adore them. Each wedding is a unique and amazing feat of design and, most importantly, a celebration that marks a new era in the life of two people. I am always so honored to be a part of what is really a very intimate day for my clients. My photography approach is both artistic and photojournalistic so that I can create a beautiful, honest story through my camera's viewfinder.

Originally from Bellevue, WA, I now call Walla Walla my home. I have two wee ones who are both funny and clever and a fat black cat with an unfortunate name. When I'm not busy behind my camera, I can be found reading Dwell magazine, listening to Regina Spektor, and dreaming of travel.

Ali Walker Photography is located in downtown Walla Walla just one block off Main Street and is available for wedding and portrait commissions nationwide. If you're planning a wedding or a lifestyle photography session and like what you see, please contact me so we can schedule a meeting and talk about your photography needs.

The best camera is the one that’s with you.

I’ve seen this quotation pop up on the web often lately and it’s so true. In an age when amazing DSLRs are readily available for almost any budget and when big camera companies are churning out new models faster and faster (planned obsolescence at its finest), it’s easy to get caught up the race for the awesomest gear. DSLRs are a wonderful tool, but they’re that–a tool, and a cumbersome one at that.  I often lug mine around to document my life, but lately I’ve been leaving mine behind and using my iPhone instead.

Ask me anything.

I don’t post much (enough?) personal stuff on my blog. Here’s a chance to get to know me a little better.

Ask away.

Winter Days.

Wow, I’m so ready for winter to go away. I should probably just relax and relish the slowness of the season, but I’m a go-go-go kind of person. Wedding photography slows down considerably this time of year and while it’s a great time for me to just chill out and recharge my creative juices, I just want to get out there and do what I love to do best: shoot!

But I digrees. We’ve had a few sunny days over the past few weeks and I’ve managed to hustle the kids out into nature. Sometimes we head to the city park near our house and other times we head up to Bennington Lake to romp around. I love getting out into nature. It’s good soul food.

Claire.

My Claire. Yesterday the weather was amazing so we took a trip to Pioneer Park to play, visit the aviary, and soak up some winter sun. I took along my camera and upon downloading my snaps, I found this image compelling. This hair-do is her new favorite. She’s had a little French-looking bob for the past three years, but lately has decided that she wants to grow it long (this in addition to shunning all the cute Hanna Andersson clothes I bought for her this past fall). She is on her way to finding her own style at the ripe age of four.

Back…

What a fabulous trip to Portland, OR! I spent great time with my kids, my sister and two of my closest friends. Lots of shopping was done. Snow was witnessed. Rest was had. Pages were read. Good times. I brought my camera, but only picked it up once to shoot my best friend’s dog, Dutch. Dutch is a two year old lab mix who my friend adopted from this shelter a few years ago. Isn’t the photography amazing? I want to take home Kara, but alas I’m not ready for a dog in my life yet. Boo.

Here’s the Dutch man. He’s the easy-going, silly, and extremely sweet. Coolest dog ever.
